There are times when thinking of Cyrena becoming more independent makes me CRINGE. However, I know it's necessary. I've been thinking it's time to teach her some life skills. She is going to need to pour her own cereal someday so I decided to start working on pouring skills. I opened up a can of food storage (let's be real, I'm never going to use all those pinto beans!) and let her get to work. She scooped them into a pitcher using a measuring cup then used the pitcher to pour into a bowl. Then she served bowls of beans for 'breakfast'. Of course she had to sweep up any stray beans that fell to the floor. After she masters the beans, we'll move to cereal, then rice, then maybe water if I'm feeling really brave. Right now I'm not feeling too brave since I've been stepping on beans all week. :)

Sometimes when Natalie has a bottle, Cyrena wants to feed her. So I let her-- hey it give me more time to get dinner ready! Since I'm in the 'life skills for Cyrena' state of mind, I suggested she wash the bottle as well when she was done. She couldn't have been more excited and she felt so big. This reaffirms my feelings that I need to start a regular chore schedule for her. She's ready and able.

I just ordered this http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=7002X&kw=choreganizers&event=PPCSRC&p=1018818&cm_mmc=Google-_-Kids-_-general-_-choreganizers&gclid=CKTj2oCPj5oCFQ9JagodLz7_LQ#curr to help assign chores. One of the chores that I always start with is making their bed. It doesn't have to be perfect or even pretty, but they have to try.
What a great idea...you are such a good mommy. My boys are beginning to help with chores as well. Their favorite is emptying the silverware thing from the dishwasher. They love sorting everything into the right spot in the drawer. I am taking a family relations Sunday School class right now and the lady who teaches also teaches Love and Logic and she tells us all the time that the most important thing we can do for our kids is give them chores! I think it is nice to finally have some help! :)
Jenna -
I love the picture of Cyrena feeding Natalie - she is absolutely beautiful!
Dad
Logan once again spilled food all over the living room on purpose (cheerios this time) so I made him vacuum them up again. And this time I made him use the attachments to get under the furniture so that all I had to do was vacuum up some of the stray crumbs.
I thought he learned his lesson the first time, but I guess not. He told me his belly hurt this time because he would push the vacuum against it. So maybe now he won't do it again?...
P.S. could you take a picture of the top front and back of Cyrena's dress today?
aww she makes an awesome big sister and she has a pretty awesome mom to take the time to teach her how to be responsible and for habing the patience to be willing to step on a few beans during her growing pains. ;)
You are a great Mom!! Want to come over and help me out with a couple teenagers??
so cute! and I love her little pigtails!
What a great little mommmy you are!! I need to be better about chores-especially since Karson is 5!! Oh, and I didn't have time to comment on your last post, but Natalie is so cute!! I love the close up pics you took!!
Independence is such a struggle but it's great when they accomplish something on their own.
Don't worry about the pouring thing Ty just started pouring his own stuff a few months ago. They eventually learn!
Cute idea for chores... roll a dice or make a cute one with scrapbook stuff and assign a chore to each number and then let them roll the dice to find out what they get to do! :)
Also another one he earns rewards like the "Super Sweeper Award" for completing chores... Ty loves this one! Hmmm... Maybe I should blog on these...
You are such a cute mom!
Good idea! And don't overlook the fact that she can start pouring your cereal some day, making your bed, doing all the dishes, sweeping, vacumming and mopping all of your floors. Oh wait this is kind of starting to sound like a fairy tale! Cyrenarella!!! At least you know she will get the Prince get married in the LDS castle and live happily everafter. Of course there is the matter of what happens to you.
Your great Jenna and I love reading your posts.
This is so great! Too bad learning how to do these things by themselves didn't have to include so many messes, wouldn't that be nice! Beautiful pictures!
Ahh! They grow up too fast!! Isn't funny how we can't wait for the day they do things on their own...then when they are we are wishing they weren't!!
Good Job Cyrena!!!
She is sooo stinkin cute. You come up with best ideas.
I have a bit of a control issue with letting my kids do things! I always think of the extra mess it will be to let them pour and do things themselves. But it is important, I guess I could try Dallin, since he is 6 :) But Ryder? Mybrain can't handle the messes he could create!
That is seriously such a great idea- I will have to try to do the same. Again, you just inspire me.
